EFFECT OF BETA FAST® GXR® GLUCOSE BALANCE (GYMNEMA SYLVESTRE) ADDED
TO ORAL HYPOGLYCEMIC REGIMENS IN THE TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH NIDDM

Informulab Commissions Controlled Clinical Study on Beta Fast GXR, Extended
Release Gymnema Sylvestre for Type 2 Diabetes
Informulab of Omaha, Neb. has commissioned a university medical research
team to conduct a controlled clinical human study on its newly introduced
Beta Fast GXR, a standardized, extended-release herbal dietary supplement
specifically formulated for people with diabetes. The study plans to answer
whether Beta Fast GXR supports healthy blood sugar levels in Type 2
diabetics concurrently using prescription drugs by further improving glucose
control and HbA1c levels. Beta Fast GXR contains 400mg of standardized
Gymnema Sylvestre (25% Gymnemic acids) extract per tablet. Gymnema is an
Ayurvedic herb originating in India. The plant's leaves have been used
safely for centuries as a natural treatment to help reduce high blood sugar
levels.
Marc Rendell MD, Professor of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Creighton
University Medical Center, Omaha, Neb., head endocrinologist at Creighton
Diabetes Center and Medical Director of the Rose Salter Medical Research
Foundation will head the study, focusing on the efficacy and safety of
orally induced Beta Fast GXR tablets. The protocol calls for a double blind,
placebo controlled study administered to a population of 30 Type 2 diabetes
patients for a period of no less than 90 days. Participants will be
monitored throughout the process. "There has not been sufficient
exploration of the effectiveness of alternative anti-diabetic medications.
This needs to be pursued," explains Rendell, whose published works on
diabetes have appeared in JAMA (2/99) and NEJM (5/00).
Beta Fast is sold in more than 2500 pharmacies nationally, including Longs
Drugs, Kroger Pharmacies, Fry's Food and Drug, King Soopers, Bartell, Mays
Drugs, Drug Warehouse, Medicine Chest, Medicine Shoppe, Hy Vee Pharmacies,
Dillon's Pharmacies, Med-X, Family Drugs, Lewis Drug, Pamida, More.com, Drug
Emporium.com and selected Albertson's pharmacies.
